When we talk about “fish leather”, many people immediately think of Stingray. It is indeed the best known fish leather. Stingray skin, also known as shagreen, is the upper portion of certain species of shark and ray used in leathercraft. Once tanned and worked, the scales give a very particular result: it looks like “pearls”. And with good reason: the skin of these fish is covered with silica pearls. This makes the work of this leather quite complex but the result is sublime.
The skins used for the leather goods come from farmed stingrays in Thailand.
