ARAPAIMA

A FASHIONABLE MATERIAL COMING FROM AMAZONIA

Arapaima or Pirarucu is the largest freshwater fish in South America. The scales of the Arapaima leather are quite large and marked. The skins are relatively thick (2.2 mm) compared to those of other fish. The Brazilian NGO “Instituto – e” has implemented a respectful fishing policy for food use. The skin, a waste product of this industry, is recycled to be used for the manufacture of leather.
